Excerpt
It feels effortless. And it feels right.

We stay hugging for a few moments, and as I nestle closer to his chest, surrounded by his smell, I know that I’m in trouble. I have feelings for someone who is going to be really, really hard to say goodbye to when the time comes. But when did this happen? When was the exact moment my world got tipped on its axis, and shaken up beyond repair?

I should have stopped it, but who am I to stand in the way of something that was inevitable?

The sound of Quinn’s heart beating steadily against my ear is comforting, and if I close my eyes really tight, I can pretend that I’m just a normal girl, being wrapped up in the arms of her normal…boyfriend?  But make believe is for dreamers, and I’m a realist. I will enjoy the here and now because I don’t know what tomorrow holds.

Title: 100 Proof Stud ( The Darcy Walker Series #3)
Author: AJ Lape
Genre: YA/Mystery/Humor

Synopsis:
Sometimes life smacks you right in the kisser with a whole lot of ohhhh craaaaap.

Just ask Darcy Walker.

100 Proof Stud picks up four months after No Brainer's cliffhanger ending, and Darcy discovers the aftermath pales in comparison to the crisis her heart is in. All of a sudden it's raining men, and this teenage heroine’s personal life turns her inside out.

Before she can sort out her feelings, she chases a spray-painting vandal and stumbles upon a case of identity theft right in her own backyard. Darcy jumps into the fray headfirst to prove she can hang with the big boys.

But it’s not just to hang…nope, she’s chasing reward money.

Tapping her band of misfit brothers for help, she turns Valley upside down trying to unearth the criminals. Problem is, the cloak and dagger goes high-octane, and she raises the bar on “crazy" in the process.

Bullets ring out…dead bodies appear…and Darcy rubs shoulders with the ultimate sociopath. In the midst of murder and mayhem, will she finally follow her heart or build a fortress of lies around it? Will she even get the chance?

Excerpts:
#5 Inhaling deeply, I found my calm, realizing Vinnie and I needed to leave ASAP and phone the authorities. Those plans hit an iceberg because once I joined Vinnie in the front room, I heard a Pfffft. Then another. I was a little slow on the uptake but soon realized the Pfffft was the sound of something striking the couch. Yellowed batting exploded out of a bullet hole in a puff of white smoke.
Call me a genius, but I didn’t consider this good.
“Down!” Vinnie roared, launching himself toward me.
Unfortunately, my legs went moron and glued to the floor. For a moment, I had a flashback of running from a shooter last spring. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place…evidently, it does. My legs felt like rubber, and the room went to a dizzying whirl. Tears welled in my eyes, but I commanded them to dry up. You couldn’t think rationally when you cried. Emotions ruled. I didn’t make the rule; someone else did. Problem was, my tear ducts didn’t comply. I boo-hoo’d like a little girl.
Vinnie heaved us both off the floor, pitching me his keys I caught in one hand. “Oh, God, Vinnie,” I breathed, adrenaline nearly slicing me in two. This was like a Scarface  shootout, only we didn’t have a gun.
Vinnie’s eyes glowed black and angry, but he took time to tenderly touch my cheek in an order. “Snap out of it, Dolce. Go. Out the back. I’ll follow.”
    I still couldn’t move.
When Vinnie whipped off his jacket to do God-knew-what, voices boomed outside as three more gunshots landed on the hardwood floor. The wood splintered into pieces, sawdust pooling like an ant mound. When a sixth shot hit near my feet, I lost my balance and cartwheeled across the floor, landing on my knees. Vinnie snatched me up and shoved me in front of him, clutching my back to his front, acting as a human shield. Praying vehemently he didn’t get struck in the mayhem of gunfire, I still was worthless while he kicked out the window and tossed me onto the ground. I landed on all fours, my hands hitting the gravelly dirt of a backyard in need of upkeep. My tights split at the knees, and the air left my body on a hiss. I crawled in an uncoordinated manner like a baby intent on learning a new method of transportation. My eyes blinded with tears, and when I made it around the air conditioning unit, my hands hit something thick and mucousy. Pulling my shaking hand to my eyes, I recognized the red, viscous fluid immediately…blood. Blood that’d partly dried and led me to the body of…oh, God help me… help me.

BLOG TOUR: Choose Us by Caylie Marcoe *GIVEAWAY*

SYNOPSIS

Travis Grayson is my best friend—and I’m his. It’s been like that for the last fifteen years. I would do anything for him, go anywhere for him…and I have, countless times. Except now, now he’s asking for too much. Our friendship has reached a breaking point and I don’t know how to go back.

When he decided to go pro in the BMX circuit, I traveled with him as often as I could and was always the most supportive best friend I could be. When I graduated college and he asked me to be his personal assistant, we spent every waking moment together. We never fought or argued, in fact, our friendship was stronger than ever.

But a fractured ankle has put his career on hold and has given him more downtime than he knows what to do with. Always one for excitement, he agrees to become the bachelor on a televised dating show. He only agreed to do the show, if I would come along and go undercover to help him weed out the girls. Reluctantly, I agreed to give up my eight weeks of freedom.

Now I’m stuck in hell surrounded by girls desperate for his attention. He promised me this show would be smooth sailing. He promised he would listen to my advice on which girls should be eliminated. Except now he’s breaking those promises. He’s stopped listening to my advice and I’m afraid he might be falling for the worst girl here.

I shouldn’t care. Except, there’s one girl here that I’m realizing I don’t want him to eliminate. There’s one girl who I want to see go all the way to the end, and I want Travis to choose her.
That girl is me. I’m pretty sure I’m falling in love with my best friend and it looks like he will break my heart in front of the entire world on national TV.

EXCERPT
“Riles. Riles wake up!” My shoulder was being shaken so hard I thought it was going to dislocate.
“Mmm, five more minutes.” I groaned, rolling to get out of the horrible grasp.
“Riles, you don’t have five minutes! It’s 7:30. You need to get up and get back to the house!” This time I recognized Travis as the shoulder nudging culprit.
“Trav, go away.” I threw my arm out, hitting him in the jaw.
“Doll, I can’t go away when I have to be at the house in an hour!”
Wait, did he say an hour?
I shot up, rubbing my eyes against the bright light streaming through his bedroom windows.
Shit, I had fallen asleep in his bed. Now I had to find some way to sneak back into the house, with all the girls awake. Double shit.
“Trav, you weren’t supposed to let me fall asleep!” I whined, crawling out of bed. “How am I supposed to get back into the house undetected?” I walked over to his windows, throwing my hair up into a messy bun at the top of my head.
I peeked through his curtains and could see the main house just through the trees. People were moving about throughout the house. I turned to the other window which looked directly out to the pool.
“Nice view you have here.” My voice dripped with sarcasm. I could make out two figures drinking coffee out on the patio.
Crap, getting back there under the radar was going to be next to impossible.
“Trav, how am I going to get back there?” Groaning, I followed him into his kitchen.
“I don’t know. I uh…” Travis glanced around the kitchen trying to come up with a plan. His eyes landed on something and he broke into a smile. “That’s it.”
I looked down to what he was staring at and laughed. “My shoes? What genius plan did you come up with using my shoes?”
“You went for a morning run. You can go out my back door. There is a pathway that leads to the beach and isn’t seen from the house. You can run back up to the house on the beach. No one would know!” He was getting super excited about this plan, except there was one major flaw.
“Travis, I don’t run. You know this!” My arms were flailing wildly around, trying to make the point.
“The old Riley Logan didn’t run. The new Riley Logan, who all these girls know, does.” He popped that damn cocky grin on his face.
“I just want you to know, I hate you,” I mumbled, resigned to putting my shoes on. I really didn’t have an option and he knew it. He came up with the best plan we had, and I’d have to follow through.
“If by hate, you mean love. Then yes, yes I know.” Travis led me to the back door of the house and opened it, making sure the coast was clear.
I punched him in the arm before heading down the path to the beach.
“If I die from this thing you call running, it’s all on you,” I yelled lowly over my shoulder. Travis’ laugh followed me as I made my way down to the beach.

AUTHOR BIO

Born and raised in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, Caylie fell in love with reading at a young age. With her lively imagination, she created numerous stories in her head throughout her childhood and teenage years. Finally at 16 she sat down at the computer and wrote out her first full length novel. That pacified her for a time. However, the stories kept swimming through her mind. Finally in 2013 she typed out Chapter One of three different novels and sent them off to a close friend for review. At her friends advice, she started exclusively writing Choose Us. When she isn’t slaving away at the keyboard, Caylie is an avid reader, and lover of coffee… copious amounts of coffee. She also has an unhealthy addiction to tv shows—binge watching is her favorite.

She chases her two kids around the house all day, and has a husband whom she adores.

REVIEW

An excellent sweet romance!!!  Author Caylie Marcoe just wowed me with her debut novel Choose Us.

I know everyone is reading all the steamy and sexy New Adult Contemporary Romance but this was just all around refreshing.  A beautiful, funny, sweet romance between best friends.
I loved that the story took place on one of those reality TV show like the Bachelor.  Since I am not one to watch them on television this worked great for me.  I got all the drama, angst and need to slap a bitch in the comfort of my fluffy bed with no commercials.
When Riley and Travis discover there is more between them then just years of friendship they just don't jump into bed together and get all hot and heavy.  They continue to date and figure these new feelings out.  But while this is all happening and the world is watching this new love unfold, poor Riley must watch Travis date the other women on the show.   And just let me say that some of these girls (one in particular) is a total bitch.  My heart just broke for Riley when Travis didn't eliminate her right off.  But you know how men are.  Old habits are hard to break and this girl if just full of Travis old ways.  So will Travis ultimately choose Riley at the end of the show???  You are going to be so surprised by this one.

My recommendation to you is that if you are looking for a refreshing romance that you can without a doubt recommend to anyone to love, this is it.

After a horrific breakup with her long-time boyfriend, Brooklyn Caldwell is completely disenchanted with the notion of mingling with the opposite sex. Damon Williams had been everything she thought she wanted…until he wasn’t.

In an attempt to escape her heartbreaking past, Brooklyn seeks refuge in bustling Washington DC where she folds into the fast paced society unnoticed…until she meets a young entrepreneur, Logan Colton.

Brooklyn is surprised to find that while she has been successful in keeping the opposite sex at bay, somehow she is defenceless against Logan’s confidence and charm—and it doesn’t hurt that he is absurdly beautiful. While thrilled with Logan’s candour, Brooklyn hesitates, as she can’t seem to move past the heartache that she suffered at the hands of Damon.

As much as Logan didn’t plan on pursuing her, he is drawn to Brooklyn’s muted beauty and her witty persona. For all his success, Logan is ensnared in the coveted world of unequivocal wealth and power, but behind closed doors is taunted by demons and an undeniable need to atone for a monumental mistake.

As the two embark on a tumultuous obstacle course saturated with unknown twists and turns, Brooklyn is left to question whether she can endure the journey ahead.

“Logan Colton wanted me to call him? Why? I wondered ….For the life of me I couldn’t understand the cruel joke that the universe was playing on me. I wasn’t the pretty or popular girl that got asked out by legions of boys to prom. I still remembered the awkward years of my youth—the braces, obscene hairdos and neon tights. Nope, I wasn’t Paula Patton beautiful. I wasn’t on any millionaire’s long list of friends—nor did I want to be. Logan would just have to settle for one of the women who would be more than willing to sink her teeth into his obscene fortune, guaranteeing that she wouldn’t have to lift a finger for the rest of her natural life.”- Brooklyn Caldwell

Interview with S.C. Ellington:
Have you always wanted to be a writer?

Yes and no. I always enjoyed using my creativity. I found pleas-ure in writing short poems and things of that nature. For a while I considered medical school, then law school, but for me, those professions were more of a means to earn a substantial living. My father always told me to choose a profession that I didn’t feel like would be "work." I ended up doing the opposite and pursued my Masters degree. From that point, I acquired a position within the government.

Over the course of the last few years, I found myself yearning for more. I would say that the day my husband brought me my Kindle, was the day that my life and outlook changed. I started thinking back on my father’s words and what I found joy in. I’ve always been an avid reader, and many close friends always told me that they thought I wrote well. About a year ago, a tiny light bulb went off, propelling me to pursue my creative pas-sion for writing. Had it not been for the ever evolving world of self-publishing, I am not sure that I would have ever seriously pursued my dreams of becoming a published author.

Have you ever suffered from "writers block"?

I had a few cases of this dreadful disease! I found that by leaving my work alone for a few days, ideas were able to flourish when I didn’t put myself under pressure to spit out words.

Best advice for anyone starting out writing?

Well as a budding author myself, I can’t stress enough the importance of networking. When I first approached the idea of writing a novel, I was mortified by the idea of social networking and meeting people face to face. Luckily I was able to meet a few great people early on who showed me the ropes of the author world. I think my exposure to them has made my author experience richer.

Is it harder to write a male or female character?

It is most definitely harder for me to write male characters. As a woman, it is so much easier for me to tune into what most women desire, complain about, or fear. Thankfully, my husband has been supportive and allows me to pick his brain to get male points of view.

What scenes are the hardest for you to write?

Oddly enough, as a new adult romance author, the hardest scenes for me to pull together are the actual love scenes. I struggle with the syntax of my word choice, where to stage the characters, and above all, keeping the scenes fiery.

If you could see the world through the eyes of one of your characters, which one would it be and why?

I would have to say I would like to experience the world through Logan’s eyes. Logan has had to deal with some hard blows. While everyone deals with adversity at some point, it would be nice to experience how he strives to move past it on a daily basis.

How do you know if your work is a short story or a novel in the making? What triggers that decision?

On some level, the characters speak to you. I find if they have a lot to say, then I continue to write. If they’ve, yelled, screamed, and made up in twenty pages, then I know they were only meant to be around for a season or two.

If you could bring one of your characters to life, who would you choose and why?

I would choose Brooklyn. Like Logan, Brooklyn has also dealt with tumultuous ups and downs in her life. Brooklyn has a fire about her, and I enjoy that. To see some of her crazy comments played out in real life would be comical.

Do your fans have any impact on your writing?

Certainly! As a budding author, you’re eager to hear what readers think of characters and the overall story line. What they liked and didn’t like and so forth. SinceUnsettled is the first novel of a series, I would embrace things that my readers had to say to keep the thrill of the story going.

What is the best compliment you have received as an author?

The best compliment thus far was from a reader who messaged me and cried, "I was sad to see the story end."

If you had the chance to go on a date with one of your characters, who would it be?

I would love to hang out with Damon for a couple hours. Get some insight into what he was thinking! I don’t think I could be his Mystic though!

What lies in your near future as an author?

I hope to pursue writing as a full-time career at some point. In the meantime, I look forward to interacting with my fans and continuing Logan and Brooklyn’s story.
