I tried hard not to fall for the bad guy.

My new roommate, Blake, is a jerk—an unemployed artist with a chip on his shoulder. I can’t stand him unless his hands are on me. He makes me desperate for him, and everything he makes me feel.

And then there’s my new boss, Pierce--successful, charming, and extremely good-looking. He goes after what he wants, but what does he see in me?

I try to stay away, but I end up in the arms of exactly who I was hiding from. And when I find out what’s being hidden from me, my heart twists in ways it never should.

I thought I knew him.

I didn't.

The way he kissed me.

The way his hands traveled every inch of my skin.

I thought it meant something, but as it turns out, it was all lies unspoken.

REVIEW ~ Self Destruct by KD Carrillo ~ JMAC

SELF DESTRUCT
Author: KD Carrillo
Series: Destroy #1
Genre: New Adult | Romantic Suspense
~ SYNOPSIS ~
Becca Scott spent years burying her traumatic past under alcohol and boys. With the help of her best friend she struggles to accept herself and let go of the pain. She thought she had figured out how to stop the cycle of self-destruction she was on, until she met Aiden.

Aiden Ryan lives with constant self-hatred. He allows those close to him to manipulate his life for their own gain, because he feels he deserves it. He was resigned to marry a woman he doesn't love, until he met Becca.

Becca and Aiden try and let go of their painful pasts to be together, but can their pasts let go of them?

*JMAC'S REVIEW*

I really enjoyed Self Destruct.  This is the first time reading KD Carrillo's work, and I wasn't disappointed.  Self Destruct is the story about two very different people, who are both broken inside.  Both Becca, and Aiden are dealing with things from their past that makes it hard for them both to be happy.  I loved Aiden's character! Talk about a caveman.  When it comes to Becca, Aiden just can't help it.  He has this overwhelming urge to protect her, and he tries his best to do so.  Becca, poor Becca.  My heart broke for her.  She was just so broken, at first I really didn't see her ever being happy.  Once someone breaks your spirit (which is exactly what happened to Becca at a young age), it's hard to overcome it.  Aiden and Becca both had a lot to deal with.  Between Aiden's mother trying to control him, and Becca's continuous negative thoughts, they had a lot fighting against them.
KD Carrillo's writing was great.  I felt the emotions of both characters.  They both went through very real life things, things that could happen to anyone.  I liked that most about the book, that the things the characters went through are very common, yet very hard things to go through.  KD had a beautiful way of explaining everything, and getting me to connect personally with each character.  KD you did a wonderful job with Self Destruct.  I can't wait to read more of your work!

Aiden's POV

“Hey Ya” by Outkast began playing over the stereo. Becca started doing a sexy wiggle without thinking, so I led her to where her friend had pushed the furniture aside to make room for dancing. “Toni hates new music. She only listens to stuff from the 90’s and early 2000’s,” Becca whispered. The tequila made her voice become husky and was going to trash the rest of my self-control.

I grabbed her waist and pulled her body tight against mine. My hips started to sway us back and forth. Her upper body turned and undulated across my chest and stomach. Her tiny hands slid across my chest and around my neck. I could tell she was slender looking at her, but holding her I realized her clothes were hiding a fantastic body. She had soft curves, but she also had tight muscles pulling while she danced.

I looked into her jade green eyes. She was really very pretty. All peaches and cream skin surrounded by dark red hair. I’m sure girls have a different name for the color, dark red softened by tones of brown. It was so thick and soft. I love long hair on girls, and hers fell most of the way down her back.
I might be a bastard, but my resistance was slipping. I leaned in and gently nibbled the tender skin of her neck. I felt her try to suppress a moan. I took my right hand from her waist and buried it in the hair at the back of her neck and went in for a kiss.

BLOG TOUR - Parting Chances **REVIEW & GIVEAWAY**

Parting Chances 360x540 (Website).jpg

SYNOPSIS
The road of Haley Cavanaugh’s life has been filled with cracks, potholes and detour signs. Her mom’s cancer forced her to grow up too fast and her brother has moved across the country instead of sticking around when she needs him most. Now, her parents are forcing her to move out. They say she needs to follow through with the plans she’s set for herself, but Haley is torn between her dreams and her family’s reality. The only thing she has to look forward to is living with her best friend, Kyler.
What she doesn't need right now? Eli Park. Haley remembers him as Kyler’s boyfriend’s geeky roommate, but he’s anything but geeky now. Now, he's downright hot. And Haley cannot get him out of her head.
It would be easier if they didn’t have class together five days a week. Or have weekly study dates. And if she didn’t spend way too much time with Kyler at Eli’s house. But, the closer he gets and the harder she falls, the more Haley pulls away. Her heart is too fragile to end up broken on the side of the road. She thinks she’s got it under control until Eli brings home another girl and Haley realizes what she has to lose.
As Haley’s life is turned further upside down, will she be left to pick up the pieces of her heart alone?

EXCERPT
I swung back and forth for a while, letting the breeze settle my nerves. I don’t know how long I was out there for, but eventually, I heard a car pull up. The door shut and footsteps thumped up the stairs.
“Hello,” a masculine voice drifted towards me.
I opened my eyes and was greeted with crystal blue eyes, messy brown hair, a lopsided smirk and six feet of tall, lean man.
“Er…um…hi,” I croaked out. Okay…the man was gorgeous. Pretty sure I was blushing.
“Haley?” gorgeous mystery man asked.
I nodded. I didn’t know who this guy was, but he seemed to know me. And if I opened my mouth to ask him, I’m sure I would sound like an idiot again.
He gave me that adorable lopsided grin again. “Eli.” He pointed at himself, like I should know who he was. Eli was leaning against the porch railing, staring at me with amusement in his eyes. Maybe if he wasn’t so damn attractive I could get my brain to start working again. But for now, I could only stare.
“You don’t remember me, do you?” he asked. “The four of us hung out together when I roomed with Noah in the dorms.”
Holy shit. This man in front of me couldn’t be Noah’s roommate. There was no possible way he was the same guy. I hung out with the kid all the time, and this guy…no, not him. Not him at all.
“You look nothing like you did freshman year.” I blurted out. Then quickly turned red and clamped my hand over my mouth.
Oh God, he’s going to think you are the biggest idiot.
Eli laughed. “I was a lot scrawnier back then. Had longer hair. Wore thick framed glasses all the time.” His voice still sounded the same. That was something at least. “When I moved back home to help my mom, I worked with my uncle at his construction company. I guess that helped me gain a little muscle.” He shrugged like he was not confident with how he looked.
The more I stared at him, the more he was becoming familiar. Freshman year, he was this quiet, slightly nerdy kid. He always wore comic book t-shirts. He had spent most of his time on his computer or playing video games with Noah. Kyler had kept telling me that he had a crush on me, and she even begged me to go out with him a few times, but I always came up with reasons I couldn’t. Mostly those excuses dealt with my crush at that time—Drew. Blah. I was so not going to think about that douche when Eli was standing in front of me.
I mean, I enjoyed hanging out with him as a friend, but dating? He was definitely not what I thought my type was. Though, what I thought my type was turned out to be a bunch of jerks, so maybe I should have given the nice guy a chance.
“You okay?” he asked gently, pushing off the railing and taking a seat next to me on the swing. “You seem lost in thought.”
I shrugged, not knowing what to say.
“You don’t remember me, do you?”

“Oh no, I do.”

REVIEW by Shanean

If you don’t already know it  I love Caylie Marcoe.  Her first book “Choose Us” was new, original and so much fun to read.  But with her second book “Parting Chances” author Caylie Marcoe has taken her writing and her readers to an all new level of book fabulousness.

I just couldn’t stop crying with this one.  You know that kind where you keep pattting yourself on the chest and shaking your head.  Heartwrenching and tender moments.  Feelings I and so many others can relate to. And that is what always makes me fall for a good book.  “THE REAL MOMENTS”  The moments we have lived and relive in these characters.  Caylie can always get a laugh and some tears out of me but this time I really feel like she has upped her game.  In the sense that I had to up my tissue count. LOL!!  I was just thrilled when I finished Haley’s and Eli’s story I just wanted to run up and hug Caylie for making my entire day.
Now that’s a good book!!!

AUTHOR
Born and raised in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, Caylie fell in love with reading at a young age. With her lively imagination, she created numerous stories in her head throughout her childhood and teenage years. Finally at 16 she sat down at the computer and wrote out her first full length novel. That pacified her for a time. However, the stories kept swimming through her mind. Finally in 2013 she typed out Chapter One of three different novels and sent them off to a close friend for review. At her friends advice, she started exclusively writing Choose Us.

When she isn’t slaving away at the keyboard, Caylie is an avid reader, and lover of coffee… copious amounts of coffee. She also has an unhealthy addiction to tv shows—binge watching is her favorite.

She chases her two kids around the house all day, and has a husband whom she adores.
