Review ~ My Biggest Mistake by Leddy Harper ~ JMAC

Synopsis

Edie had spent her whole life planning her future, imagining her husband, her kids, and even which minivan she’d drive. Lucky for her, she didn’t have to wait long, marrying her high school sweetheart right after graduation.

All of Edie’s dreams had come true, until they were no longer her dreams. Unable to deal with the lingering depression caused by having children, she left her whole life behind, walking away from the one thing she'd always wanted.

Donovan Leery loved his wife with everything he had and could never imagine life without her. Until he came home from work one day and found a letter from Edie, explaining she needed a break. Not only leaving him to live his life without her, but alone to raise their three small children.

But what happens when Edie is ready to come home? When she’s ready to fight for it all back? She knew it wouldn’t be easy. But she didn’t care. After spending years getting her life back together, she was ready to fight for her family. And a fight is what Donovan would give her.

She'd fight to make up for her Biggest Mistake.

*JMAC'S REVIEW*

I finished reading this book about a week ago.  I honestly had no idea what I could write in a review to really express how much I not only loved this book, but how truly amazing My Biggest Mistake really is.  Leddy has completely outdone herself with this book, and I think if you read it you would agree 100%

I know there are a lot of people who are “cover whores”, who love love love covers.  I am not one of those people.  I really never judge a book by its cover.  I’m more of a “synopsis whore”, and after reading the synopsis of My Biggest Mistake, I knew I was going to love this book.

My Biggest Mistake is unlike anything I have ever read before.  The whole subject isn’t something I have seen a lot of authors touch on, actually I don’t remember ever reading a book that has the same subject matter and personally I feel that is hard to come by.  So I read an amazing synopsis, and it was the first book I had with this certain subject.

My Biggest Mistake gets right to it.  Emotions are high as soon as you read that first page.  One thing I love, is an author’s ability to make me emotional.  If you are able to make me sob solely with your words, you are extremely talented.  Leddy did just that.  I don’t think I made it as far as the 5th page without shedding some tears.  Not only was this book highly emotional, it was full of angst.  OH MY LAWD the angst in this book killed me.  There were times I could feel my own heart beating extremely fast inside my chest because I had no idea what else was going to happen.

My Biggest Mistake follows Edie on her journey of righting her wrongs.  After life took a huge toll on her, the young mother of 3 up and left.  From the start I felt like I was supposed to hate Edie.  Especially being a mother myself I found myself thinking, “How could you leave your babies? I would never, could never do that.”  But as the story unfolded I understood. I understood her pain, which made me understand her reasoning.  I found myself crying hard for Edie, and the way she felt about herself.   I wanted to jump inside those pages and just comfort her.  Tell her she would get through the hurt and pain.  Then there’s Donnie.  My heart BROKE for Donnie.   I just can’t put it any other way than that.  I literally broke down multiple times because of how broken Donnie was.

My Biggest Mistake is the heartbreaking story of love.  Finding it, losing it, throwing it away, and fighting for it.  This is by far my favorite book of Leddy’s and to be honest it is one of my favorite books of 2015.  The raw emotion that came from every page of this book was just so heartbreakingly beautiful.  That’s how the only way I can put it.  It breaks your heart, but it’s also beautiful.

Both Edie and Donnie’s story is one I won’t forget.  I absolutely loved this story, and I feel like everyone should experience it.  Please do yourself a favor and read this amazing book.

Leddy, you outdid yourself.  My Biggest Mistake is one of the best books I’ve read all year!

*JMAC'S REVIEW*
Finding Us was a great debut by Debra!

Finding Us had a lot of aspects to it.  A crazy ex boyfriend, a mother who has no care, and a girl who is basically just lost, and can't seem to trust anyone.

I loved Danny.  I thought he was a great leading male in the story. The one thing I can't take is a weak female, and in some cases Abby was really weak.  I wanted to shake her and tell her to not care what people were telling her to do.  I wanted her to just do what SHE wanted to do..But I did understand why she had to do what she did.  Being a musician, they live completely different lives.  I totally understood why she couldn't just do what she wanted at times.

I do wish that Danny and Abby had a longer time together than they did, but maybe there will be another book with them in it, because I really do love them together.

All in all it was a good read.  It was a mixture of funny, sexy and serious.  Great job on your debut Debra, I can't wait for the next one!

excerpt

©2015 Debra Presley Abby sagged against the elevator wall, completely exhausted from her long day. All she wanted now was the hot bath Sean had promised, followed by blissful sleep. Sophie, along with her personal security detail, Danny Nucci and Ron Miller, stepped into the elevator with her. “That wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been,” Sophie said. “Danny was lucky enough to get cornered by that woman.” Ron chuckled and pressed the buttons for their floors. “Left me to hold back all the squealing teenagers.” Abby fought the urge to roll her eyes. The woman was gross. She was dressed like a cheap whore. And, she was there with her daughter, not at some nightclub. She wouldn’t leave Danny alone. “You could’ve given me some help. She was disgusting.” He shook his head exaggeratedly. “She was quite fond of you.” Abby laughed to mask her real feelings. “Not one of you tried to intervene. I’m gonna need to shower for a week in order to get her perfume out of my nose. She reeked.” “Yeah, you do smell pretty,” Abby goaded. “I’ll remember this. Just wait,” Danny warned as the elevator door opened to Sophie’s floor. “Night.” Sophie gave Abby a quick peck on the cheek before she stepped off the elevator. “Night.” Abby waited inside the elevator with Danny. He held the door open while Ron walked Sophie to her room. “So, what are your plans for the rest of the night? A late night rendezvous with the smelly cougar?” Abby teased. “Aren’t you the funny one this evening. Well, baby doll, it’s two-thirty in the morning, so I’m thinking sleep. Why? Did you have something in mind?” She got lost for a minute in his deep-brown eyes that sparkled with mischief. She’d always thought he was hot, but she was caught off guard by the desire to touch his cheek, to smooth her fingertips over his dimples. This visceral reaction to Danny kept happening more and more frequently, no matter how much she tried to suppress it. “Um, you still with me, Abby?” She blinked, and her cheeks flushed with heat. “Oh, you want me to answer you?” she laughed to cover up her embarrassment. She didn’t want him to realize she’d been daydreaming about how rough his five o’ clock shadow would feel against the flat of her tongue. “I told you how I feel about your stupid nicknames.” She tried to sound pissed, but didn’t pull it off. Ron laughed as he entered the elevator and pressed the button for their floor. Danny glared at him for a moment then started laughing with him. Abby changed the subject. Much safer that way. “What time are we heading out in the morning?” “Oh-nine-hundred hours,” Danny replied. “Okay, Drill Sergeant, I’ll be ready.” The elevator dinged, and the doors opened to the semi-private floor which held the suite she shared with Sean, along with another across the hall where Danny and Ron stayed. “Well, Military Man, it’s been a pleasure. I’m gonna go pass the hell out. Have a good night. See ya, Ron.” She waved over her shoulder as she slid her keycard through the electronic lock. When the reader beeped and the green light came on, she gave the men one last smile before entering her suite. She closed the door and removed the nude color platform pumps from her aching feet. Clearly, her shoes were made for showing, not walking. She made her way into the large sunken living room; the muted neon glow from the Vegas strip was the only light in the room. “Sean?” Abby called on her way to the bedroom. She dropped her shoes next to the dresser. Sean wasn’t there, even though he’d said he would be. Abby blew out a puff of air, annoyed with herself for believing him, yet again. She wasn’t lying when she said she’d reached her limit, but that didn’t matter when he knew that it wasn’t up to her anyway. Her mother would never let her leave him. She had plans, and it didn’t matter what Abby wanted. Abby turned the light on then dug into her bag for her phone. It wasn’t there. “Fuck,” she muttered. She picked up the hotel phone and dialed Sean’s number. It went to voicemail. She hung up. There was no point in leaving a message. She dialed back to the operator and asked to be connected to Sophie’s room. “Hey, sorry to bother you, but do you have my phone?” “No, I don’t think so, but let me look. Hold on.” Abby chewed her lip, thinking about Sean. Where the hell was he? Worse, who was he with? A hard knot formed in her stomach as she thought about what he might be doing. “Hey,” Sophie said. “I don’t have it.” “I must’ve left it in my dressing room.” Typical, considering the way her luck had been tonight. “Sean’s not here. You know what that means.” She sighed. “I’m gonna go find my phone.” “Why do you even bother with him anymore? We’ve hashed this out before.” “It’s late. Can we talk about this later? He’s not here and right now I can’t even think about what that means, but I know I need my phone.” She was sick of it all. “You shouldn’t go alone.” “It’ll take twenty minutes. Quick and easy.” Thankfully the arena was connected to the hotel. “Okay, but ask one of the boys to go.” “They’ve had a long night. I don’t want to bother them. I won’t be long, and besides, you’ll know where I am. When I find my phone, I’ll call you.” “Abby! Tell them. I get that you’re upset, because Sean’s disappeared…again but don’t do something stupid.” “Fine. Will you come with?” “I’ll meet you at the elevator.” “Perfect. Thanks.” Abby slipped on a pair of flats and unhooked the panic button from her purse and attached it to her bracelet. Danny insisted that she wear the damn thing. She insisted that it looked good as a charm she could wear hanging from wrist or attached to her purse. After all, security was important, but appearances could make or break her career. She didn’t want it to look like she had a tracking device on her. Abby double-checked that her keycard was in her pocket before she let her door close behind her, then she jabbed the call button for the elevator. She was about to knock on the door to Danny and Ron’s suite, but a ding sounded behind her and announced the arrival of the elevator. “Damn.” She decided to call the guys when she got her phone and hurried into the elevator before the doors could slide shut without her.

Review ~ Hold On to Me by Lucia Franco ~ JMAC

John Jackson.

He’s a sweet talking Georgia boy, rough around the edges with an irresistible smile. John sets his sights on the new girl, determined to show her what his small town is about. But she isn’t as accepting as he thought and she rejects him at every turn.

The beauty and boldness of Alyssa Winters stirs John’s blood. She quickly works her way under his skin and becomes a constant in his life – his best friend, his other half. As the attraction between the two friends grows, John wants more.

She pushes, he pulls.

When one reckless night of fun wreaks havoc on John, Alyssa risks it all to ease his pain, giving him the one thing he desires most...her. But John’s sadness runs too deep, the damage, irreparable.

He runs, she falls.

John must work to prove himself. Despite everything, Alyssa is the one person he doesn't want to live without. The stakes are high, and he’s willing to bet it all. Even if it means he’s left to suffer alone.

*JMAC'S REVIEW*

I had to give myself a little over a week to process this book.  Goodness, I’m still not positive my review will really do justice to how much I loved this book.

Alyssa has to be one of my favorite heroines.  Like if I could ever bring a character to life to be her best friend, Alyssa is my pick!  She spoke her mind without a worry of the consequences.  Which is honestly my favorite thing, probably because I’m the same way.  Because of moving around so much she was super skeptical about getting close to anyone when she first arrived in South Fork.  Alyssa quickly became friends with John, Jace, and Ford.

Gosh I fell hard for these 3 boys.  Like really really hard.  Of course I had no idea going into the story what would come of it.  I totally thought it was going to be a cutesy summer romance, god do I love those.  Honestly I don’t think anything could have prepared me for what actually happened in this book.  Like one second I’m laughing at the banter between Alyssa and the boys, and the next thing I know I’m crying so hard I can seriously feel my heart ripping apart.  Yes, this book RIPPED MY HEART APART.  Totally shredded it to pieces.  And I never expected it.

Alyssa and John’s relationship is something I don’t think I could ever forget.  It was so raw, so real.  Almost too real.  The situations they are faced with are just, god I couldn’t even imagine.   There were times I wanted to punch Johnny and tell him to wake the hell up.  Then there were times I wanted to slap Alyssa and tell her to open her freaking eyes.  But when it was all said and done, I understood their feelings.  I understood why they each did what they did.

I honestly couldn’t tell you who I felt worse for.  Both John and Alyssa were put through things that I wouldn’t ever, couldn’t ever imagine happening or going through.  I wanted to jump in this book and just comfort the both of them, for extremely different reasons.

There were many points in this book where I wanted to message the author and tell her how horrible she is for doing this to them.  For making me witness this type of pain.  I can’t even explain how torn I was while reading.  Lucia has a way with words.  I was hooked from start to finish.  This story is not what it seems.  It is SO MUCH MORE.

Hold On to Me is the story of love, loss, and finding love all over again.  It’s one of those things where you think it can’t possibly get worse, like there’s no way, then BAM.  Hold On to Me is easily one of my favorite reads of 2015.  I felt every emotion Lucia poured into her words, and I loved every second of it.

Trust me when I say this review doesn’t even do this book justice. It’s a special book that I feel everyone needs to read.  It was so good. I can’t stop saying how good it was.  Like really really good… Please do yourselves a favor and read this book ASAP... I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Lucia, you did it again.  You made me fall hard for another book.  Thank you for John and Alyssa’s book.  Words can’t even explain how much I loved this story!

Excerpt
“Dammit, Mona.” I leaned in closer inhaling her sweet scent and nearly brought to my knees with desire. I wanted to have her. Right here. Right now. I had to curl my fingers into fists to keep from reaching out, grabbing her and reminding her how it used to be between us. Her lids lowered and her breathing turned ragged. Was she remembering, too, or trying to forget?
“Go away, Linc.” Apparently the latter.
“Maybe I can’t,” I admitted my voice raspy with stripped down need. “Maybe I don’t want to.”
“Don’t.” She closed her eyes and her chin dropped. “Don’t do this to me.” She wet her lips. They visibly trembled. Even though I knew I had upset her I still wanted to kiss them. “I’m not one of your groupies easily flattered by your bullshit. The fact that you’re a big rock star doesn’t impress me. I know who you really are Lincoln Savage. I’ve seen you at your best and I’ve survived you at your worst. So don’t think you can come here and play games with me.”
