Review ~ Jake Undone by Penelope Ward ~ JMAC

Blurb:

Nina Kennedy was alive…but not living…until she met him.

Planes, trains, heights…you name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest person she’s ever met.

Behind Jake Green’s rough exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t expecting to fall hard for her in the process.

What Nina doesn’t realize, is that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will their love survive it?

Told in two parts from both Nina and Jake’s points of view, Jake Undone is a standalone story and a companion to the novel, Gemini.

JMAC’S REVIEW

Jake Undone is the first book of Penelope Ward’s that I’ve read, and I’ve already read two more from this fab author!
Nina is going to LIU for nursing, and decided to move to NYC from upstate NY.  She moves in with her brother’s best friend, and 2 other roommates.
I loved Nina’s character.  She seemed like a shy, nervous girl. But she was far from that.  She has some fire in her, and when it comes out it is amazing!!
Jake, OH Jake…. God I love him.  I knew right away that Jake was a good person.  Struggling between what he wants in life, and what he feels he needs to do.  Both Jake and Nina have had it rough.  Between deaths in their families, feeling like their stuck, they both have a lot in common.

Jake comes up with a master plan to help Nina get over her fears.  He tells her for every grade she gets in math that isn’t an A, he gets to confront her fears with her.  One at a time.
The whole time I was reading Jake Undone, I knew Jake was hiding something.  I honestly did not think it was a girlfriend because I didn’t peg Jake as a cheating asshole.  I just couldn’t figure out why he was stopping himself from being something more with Nina.

The connection Nina and Jake shared was just beautiful.  They were so different from each other, yet so freaking perfect.  Where Nina had no tattoos, Jake was covered.  Nina has a sweet, nice appearance while Jake had the rough bad boy look.  Two different people who just wanted the same thing.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this book that I did not expect.  Some WTF moments that left my mouth open.  But god, Jake Undone was just perfect.  All the struggles both Nina and Jake had to overcome.  Penelope I fell so hard for your characters.  I loved the side characters too.  Skylar was just amazing.  I love Skylar hard!!!

Jake Undone is the story of how two very different people try everything in their power to not fall for each other.  But sometimes fate has different plans. No one can control who they love, and this story is a perfect example of that.
If you love a good roommate romance, Jake Undone is the perfect read for you!!

Penelope you have created a forever fan in me <3
